Existing Logo Evaluations
Red Letter Studios
The first logo that i analysed was from the production company red letter studios. Immediately, when looking at this logo we can notice its simplicity, with just three words and a grapheme (cross/crucifix). Personally, i feel that this minimalist approach is hugely effective, as it conveys the main idea of the logo better, as there is less for the audience to focus on. Also, the typeface used resembles a typewriter, which carries the connotation of horror/thriller. I particularly liked this and therefore decided to incorporate something similar into some of my own logo creations.. Also, the use of a simple colour scheme is also effective, with the white contrasting against the black background and the red further connoting blood/horror genre. I have therefore decided to incorporate a similar colour scheme into some of my logo creations
Twisted Pictures
In contrast to the previous logo, Twisted Pictures have taken a much more complex approach to their company logo, as they have incorporated more complicated graphics, such as the barbed wire and dagger. However, although it contains iconography such as this specific to the horror genre, i feel that it hinders visibility of the text to some extent, making this logo less effective. Furthermore, i don't feel that the typography used is genre specific, also creating room for improvement in this logo. On the other hand, i feel that the use of a simple colour scheme works well, and this is further evidence to suggest i should incorporate one into my own logo.
When looking at the company's ident (above) we can see that there is an extremely complex animation (the barbed wire twisting around the text). Although this illustrates the meaning behind the word 'Twisted' i once again feel that it is too complex and that Idents such as these should be simpler. However, i am particularly fond of the simple sound effects that have been added in to emphasise the movement on screen. These are small twists, winds, scrapes and bangs that are very subtle yet effective. I will therefore add similar impacting sounds into my production company's ident to emphasise movement.
Slasher Films
This was one of my favourites amongst the logos that i looked at. Once again, i favour this due to its very simplistic illustration. The main image is simply an outline of a top hat, produced with in a red colour with a jagged brush effect, creating the feel of an image drawn in blood, which is very suitable horror genre iconography. Furthermore, i also liked the typeface used as again it is similar to that of what a typewriter would produce conforming with horror genre conventions also. Again, the simple colour scheme is hugely effective, and i feel that i will use the same scheme of black, white and red predominantly in my own creations.
Blood Orange Productions (Own Creation)

We decided amongst our group that the best way to choose a logo for our production company would be to create many, using the basis of our research and then vote on our favourite - which turned out to be the first design. When creating these logos, we looked at many existing companies' and found that many logos are very simple and are largely text based, with less illustration. After this, we thought of an inventive name (suited to our genre) and then experimented with many different ideas, ensuring to incorporate the colour red, capitalised/rough fonts and a general theme of blood.
